Numerical Investigation of Pressure Load over Spillway Chutes with Vertical Curvatures
نویسندگان
چکیده
For flow conduits with mild slope and considerably large vertical curvatures the hydrostatic distribution of the pressure may be used for design proposes. However, for the spillway chutes actual pressure load over the steep slope beds with small vertical curvatures may differ from the hydrostatic pressure values. The differences in pressure load on curved bed chutes are mainly because of the centrifugal forces. In present work a two dimensional Finite Volume flow solver, which utilizes the Volume of Fluid technique, is devised to investigate the division of the numerically computed pressure from the hydrostatic assumptions using some measurements for laboratory test cases reported in the literature. Key-Words: Numerical Simulations, Non-hydrostatic pressure, Curved bed, Volume of Fluid (VOF).

Stepped Spillway Performance: Study of the Pressure and Turbulent Kinetic Energy versus Discharge and Slope
In the present study, flow over flat and pooled stepped spillways was simulated three dimensionally. The VOF method and k- ε (RNG) turbulent model was used to simulate the flow over the stepped spillway. The results indicated that the numerical model was acceptably capable of simulating the flow over the pooled and flat stepped spillways for different discharges. Following that, the effect of d...

Morning Glory Spillways are an important type of flood evacuation systems. According to the specific hydraulic and structural conditions, the evaluation of the seismic behavior of these kinds of spillways could be more precise with considering the interaction of the solid-water-foundation system. In this research, a three dimensional modeling of the morning glory spillway was conducted, conside...

A labyrinth spillway is an overflow spillway to regulate and control flow in canals, rivers and reservoirs. The main hypothesis for the development of such a spillway is to increase the discharge per unit width of structure for a given headwater. This type of structure is often an efficient alternative to a gated-spillway type where either the increase of the flood-passage capacity or the con...
متن کاملNumerical Investigation of Rail Bending Behaviour Focusing on the Effect of Track Modulus
Thorough understanding of steel rail response to wheel load is a key step towards design and evaluation of the railway track structure. In current practice, maximum vertical deflection and bending moment are calculated using the theory of infinite beam on continuous elastic foundation (Winkler model), in which the foundation stiffness is assumed as constant. However, variation of track modulus ...
